Chhapiya Police Station and Gonda District in the Limelight Again: Woman Killed, Six Injured in Firing Incident

Gonda, Uttar Pradesh – 12th February: In a shocking incident that unfolded on Tuesday, a small village named Mahuli Khori, situated under the jurisdiction of Chhapiya Police Station in Gonda district, witnessed a flurry of gunfire, resulting in the death of a 60-year-old woman and injuries to six others. The incident occurred over a property dispute, with a tent being erected near the residence of Sunil Jaiswal, triggering a heated argument between the Jaiswal family and their neighbors.

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the victims were in the midst of preparations for a wedding ceremony when the dispute over the property escalated. Notably, there had been a longstanding historical dispute regarding the disputed property. It has been reported that an army personnel, identified as Sitaram Yadav alias Gabbar Nath, along with his associates, warned the Jaiswal family against encroaching on the disputed property. However, tensions flared as the victims engaged in verbal altercations, ultimately leading to gunfire.

The victims claim to have alerted the police prior to the incident, but law enforcement officials reportedly arrived at the scene two hours later. The delayed response has raised concerns among locals, highlighting the challenges faced by law enforcement in the region. Gonda has been notorious for criminal activities, and the local police are often viewed with apprehension due to their perceived reluctance in addressing such issues promptly.

The report also sheds light on the broader context of Gonda’s criminal landscape. While the tenure of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has seen a decline in criminal activities, some former gang members have transitioned into political roles. The goons with historical criminal records have turned into “pati pardhan,” and continuing their legacy as a politician.

Chhapiya Police Station, which falls under scrutiny in this incident, is known for its alleged misconduct and is accused of prioritizing photo opportunities over effective policing. Despite the weekly Thana Diwas (police station day) events organized to address criminal and civil matters, including land disputes, locals claim it is more of a symbolic gesture than a meaningful resolution process.

The incident has also brought attention to the considerable distance between the SP office and Chhapiya Police Station, raising questions about the accessibility and efficiency of law enforcement services in the region. Superintendent of Police Vinit Jaiswal confirmed the arrest of Gabbar Nath and assured that additional police presence has been deployed to prevent any further escalation of tensions.

As investigations into the incident continue, the tragic event has once again thrust Chhapiya Police Station and Gonda District into the spotlight, prompting a closer examination of law enforcement practices and the overall security situation in the area.
