Government Health Schemes that You can Benefit From

India has a population of 1.3 billion or more, and compared to this large number, less than 500 million people have any kind of health insurance cover. That amounts to not even half the population. With an extensive portion of the population well in the category of ‘poverty’, you can well imagine how many people find healthcare hard, if not impossible, to afford. A solution to this situation comes in a CGHS. This may free the burden of costly healthcare that is on many an Indian’s shoulders, taking treatment and quality care to deserving Indians.

The CGHS You Need

To combat the challenge of meeting medical costs for individuals, the Indian government has successfully granted several health insurance plans. These offer a number of benefits to people who require not just medication and treatment, but diagnostics and expensive procedures as well. You can, thus, avail any central government health scheme and get certain advantages.

Central Government Health Schemes

Listed below, are some of the key schemes you may consider availing of to meet costs of your health and treatment requirements:

● PM-JAY –

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana also known as Ayushman Bharat Yojana is a central government health scheme that is in fact, a health insurance plan. This is a policy that is offered to the section of the Indian population that is economically challenged. Under the plan, a household can hold a policy with insurance cover of Rs. 5 lakh a year. The premium is very affordable at Rs. 30 annually. Around 1.5 lakh partner health clinics were built across India to facilitate beneficiaries of this scheme.

● Central Government Health Scheme –

As the title suggests, this scheme is one of the most prominent of all schemes operated by the central government of India. A CGHS is an insurance policy focused on employees of the central government only. Unlike the PM-JAY that caters to the people who face economic challenges, this scheme is for highly ranked government employees. Such employees include senior staff of the Indian Railways and judges of the Supreme Court of India. With advantages such as hospitalisation coverage and coverage for domiciliary treatments, a unique feature of the scheme also includes naturopathy and homoeopathy treatment. Currently, this scheme is available in approximately 71 cities in India, with more to be added in the future.

● Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana –

A central government health scheme to increase the medical coverage of Indians, this insurance plan gives coverage for accidental death and disability. An individual who has been afflicted with a partial disability can get a cover of Rs. 1 lakh. For others, who have full disabilities, the coverage extends to Rs. 2 lakhs. Annual premiums are to be paid to the tune of Rs. 12. If you are in the age range of 18 – 70 years and have a savings account, you may be eligible to get benefits from this scheme.

● Employees’ State Scheme –

This is an insurance policy that can be availed of by factory workers in India. As these workers face risks by the very reason of their job functions, the Indian government sought to curb concerns over factory workers’ health. Under this scheme, employees of greater than 7 lakh factories can benefit from cover.
