Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on 2 November at around 4:30 pm, the Prime Minister’s Office said. He will also address the gathering at the four-day event, which runs until 5 November.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the summit would bring together participants from more than 130 countries, including more than 40 ministers, alongside investors, financial institutions, policymakers and industry leaders. Its announced programme centres on clean energy investment, manufacturing and technology partnerships, with more than 400 exhibitors expected at the expo.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is organising the summit in collaboration with the International Solar Alliance, according to the Embassy of India in Berne. The event will take place alongside the ninth session of the alliance’s Assembly and the fourth International Conference on Green Hydrogen.
Three forums with different roles
The Prime Minister’s Office set out separate functions for the three gatherings. Bharat RE will focus on investment, industry engagement and technology partnerships across clean energy. The International Solar Alliance Assembly will address cooperation in solar energy, including finance and institutional capacity, while the hydrogen conference will examine technologies, investment and expansion of production and use.
The shared programme was announced months before the inauguration. DD News reported on 24 July 2026 that Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi had presented the arrangement at the summit’s curtain raiser, saying it would bring the three international events together under a single platform for the first time.
The Prime Minister’s Office named nine country partners: Australia, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Their participation is part of a programme that includes country sessions, ministerial discussions and meetings between governments and businesses.
Delhi and Uttar Pradesh among state participants
Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are among the 13 states and Union Territories scheduled to showcase renewable energy potential, investment opportunities and manufacturing capabilities, the Prime Minister’s Office said. The other participants are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and West Bengal.
The programme includes state sessions, chief executive roundtables and business-to-business meetings, as well as discussions between businesses and governments. The Prime Minister’s Office described these engagements as mechanisms to promote investment, partnerships and project development.
State-level planning has a practical role beyond attracting investors. A February 2024 paper published by NITI Aayog, titled “Renewable Energy Resource Adequacy Planning to meet RPO by the States in India”, explains that renewable resources and electricity output vary across locations and over time. Those differences affect how much power a state can source locally, how much it may need from elsewhere and how much storage its electricity system requires.
The paper’s authors, Venugopal Mothkoor, Anjali Jain and Rajnath Ram, examined procurement from neighbouring states as a way to reduce transmission infrastructure requirements and associated costs. Their study also assessed storage needed to balance electricity supply and demand. The paper specifies that its views are the authors’ own and do not necessarily represent NITI Aayog’s position.
Investment commitments are not completed projects
The Prime Minister’s Office described Bharat RE as an expanded platform building on RE-INVEST, India’s renewable energy investment summit. The ministry’s event brochure provides a benchmark for that investment agenda, reporting commitments worth Rs 32.45 lakh crore at RE-INVEST 2024.
The same brochure records public- and private-sector commitments to add 570 gigawatts of renewable energy-based installed capacity. Both figures describe commitments, rather than money already invested or generating capacity already commissioned.
For a separate measure of installed capacity, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s Annual Report 2024-25 recorded 209.44 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in December 2024, compared with 180.80 gigawatts in December 2023. Installed capacity measures the rated generating capability of equipment, not the electricity it produces over a period. These are historical figures, not a measure of capacity on the summit’s opening day.
Manufacturing and equipment supply also feature in the summit programme. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the expo will cover solar and wind power, green hydrogen, energy storage and other emerging technologies. The ministry’s brochure additionally identifies grid integration, distributed renewable energy and digitalisation as focus areas.
Hydrogen discussions extend to costs and buyers
The hydrogen conference’s announced agenda goes beyond production technology. The Embassy of India in Berne said discussions would cover commercial-scale deployment, production costs, manufacturing, storage, safety, infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.
The embassy also identified offtake mechanisms – arrangements for buyers to purchase production – as a conference topic. That places demand and purchasing arrangements alongside the technical questions involved in expanding the sector.
The policy background includes the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The ministry’s Annual Report 2024-25 records that the mission was launched on 4 January 2023 with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore for 2023-24 to 2029-30. The report describes support for pilot projects, research, standards and testing infrastructure, rather than treating production alone as the mission’s task.
According to the Embassy of India in Berne, the conference will examine hydrogen applications in fertilisers, steel and mobility, alongside fuel cells, hydrogen derivatives and international investment opportunities.
