What is difference between PGT and TGT?

Education is the backbone for any countries around the world where teachers play an important role in shaping the future of a child and of course the nation too. Whereas, getting the right degree and training for the teachers is essential. In India, from the wide range of types of profession, teaching is one of the most desirable choices of career. Depending on the ideas, thoughts, beliefs, learning, concept that a person gained from his/her teacher or mentor, the future choice of career is made or decided, so teaching profession is the foundation or base of other professions. Thus the role of a teacher in one’s life is very crucial. For overall development of personality, for successful and brighter future of young minds teacher is the person who is looked upon. Post Graduate Teacher (PGT)

PGT is the abbreviation of Post Graduate Teacher. For PGT candidate should possess a Post Graduate degree after B.A., B.Sc., i.e. M.A., M.Sc. in any stream or subject and Bachelor of education degree, i.e. (B.Ed or M.Ed)with 50% marks or above in aggregate from a recognized university or institution. PGT teacher teaches at the senior secondary level, i.e. for classes 11th & 12th. Post-graduation in a selected subject, e.g. Maths, English etc. is compulsory for PGT teacher. For getting a job in Government Schools or institutes like Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyala etc. written exam and interview are there for the post of PGT teacher, however format of the exam can be changed according to different States. Some renowned private schools also offer a good salary package to PGT teacher. So, if preferred, an individual can start a career from private schools also. The pay scale of KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan) PGT teacher is 19,300-34,800, Grade Pay-4800/-, Basic Salary 18150, with other allowances are also there. Total approx. Gross salary starts from 53,000.

Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT)

It stands for a trained graduate teacher. For TGT essential qualification is graduation degree with minimum 50% marks and a B.Ed degree or either candidate should have a 4 year integrated degree course from NCERT with min 50% in the concerned subject. Teachers teaching from classes 6th to 10th or middle school are considered as TGT teacher. CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is compulsory for TGT. TGT has to choose a particular subject for teaching in which graduation is done. The maximum age limit for TGT in KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan) is 35 years and for reserved category age relaxation is there. The age limit is varied in different States and schools for the post accordingly. Selection is depended on the performance of written test and Interview. In KVS TGT, exam format total of 150 questions are there, time given to answer the question is 2hr30 min. Exam procedure changes accordingly to different States, Schools, Institutes. However, there is a good career option for TGT teacher in private schools also. In KVS, TGT Grade Pay-4600, Payscale 9,300- 34,800, Basic Salary is 17140 with other allowances are also there. Total approx. Gross salary starts from 50,000.

What is the difference Between TGT & PGT?

The main difference is TGT is trained teacher with graduation degree (in any stream) or equivalent from a recognized university with 50% marks or above in aggregate as well as in the concerned subject and B.Ed and PGT is trained teacher with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and the main subject of post-graduation must be a subject of graduation with post-graduation degree (in any subject) and B.Ed. TGT is eligible to teach up to class 10th, and PGT is eligible to teach up to class 12th. CTET exam organized by Central Board Of Secondary Education is compulsory for both TGT  and PGT teacher for jobs in Government Schools and in good private schools. It is considered a certificate of being a quality teacher for TGT State or Central Government Conduct TET (Teacher Eligibility Exam) for recruiting teachers. TET exam is valid for the time of up to 5 years. It is directed at two levels, first is the primary level (for class 1st to 5th) and second is the upper primary level (For class 5th to 8th).

The admission in B.Ed is made through an Entrance Test conducted by the University. The Entrance test pattern will be objective-based questions divided into three sections. According to D.U. B.Ed exam pattern, Paper-I consist of questions from G.K. & Reasoning, Paper-II consist of subject knowledge about class X, Paper-III consist of question from Language proficiency in Hindi & English. The result is released in the form of merit list for each category (GEN/SC/ST/OBC). Eligibility criteria are set by D.U. for B.Ed program, which varies according to the category.

2. University of Mumbai B.Ed Admission

Selection of candidates is based on the Common Entrance Test conducted by the University. The examination for MU’s B.Ed course includes Theory External Assessment And Practical Internal Assessment. According to Maharashtra B.Ed exam pattern comprises of one paper with three sections. Mental Ability 40 marks, General knowledge 30 marks, Teacher Aptitude 30 marks. The mode of examination is online.
