Woman and Indian Mentality: Has it Shambolic the Womanhood in India?

There is a saying, and there is an adage, “FOR 364 DAYS WE BEAT THEM, ON THE 365th STAND TO GREET THEM” — the problem relating to the woman was there from the epic age of the Satyug. It was Maa Sita Deviji who had to pass the test on the funeral pyre, not enough she had to go to the exile at the forest after Lord Rama brought her to Ayodhya from Lanka after slaying the King of Demon Ravana. For all the sacrifice that Maa Sita Deviji did she had to take on the worst that life could give it to her. First the jungle with Lord Rama, then at the Jungle Gardens of Ravana under the Ashoka Vatika Tree and again to the jungle that was the luck that destiny had chosen for Devi Maa Sita.

We again had the same problems during the Dwapar age when King Dritharashtra was the King and Emperor of Bharat. During his age when in exile Arjuna won the MATSYA NETRA BHED competition and had to marry Draupadi the so happy Pandavas came running to their mother Devi Kuntiji and just flashed the news that Mother- just see what we have brought with us for you.

A very tired mother who was cooking the food for the Pandavas and appeared to be weary replied- share amongst yourself and enjoy it this is my order. Draupadi was to be shared amongst all the Pandavas as a wife this again was the plight of Draupadi She was then named as PANCHALI by Lord Krishna and Lord Krishna was always to address her as “SAKHI“ which means the GIRLFRIEND that was the destiny of Draupadi whom Arjun had won individually, but to be shared equally amongst his brothers.

Now come back to the primitive age of India then at that time there was the Sati (practice) which a lady had to perform if, in case of the death of her husband, the society evilly and forcefully implied this practice forcing the married lady to immolate herself in the burning pyre to give up her life. Why should we feed her when the one who feeds her is no more and she is a burden to the family? Also, in case if she was pregnant and if she would live then the soul that would come out would have to be given the property and his or her share. Why go in for that the best would be to kill her in the pretext of the custom, that they call it Sati this was so crucifying lest Raja Ram Mohan Roy with the help of the Britishers put it off not before he had to bear the brunt of the so-called evil society.

Ages and ears, the plight of the womenfolks have remained the same. It has not changed either here in India or any part of the world, the difference is in the Americans and the European continents that the women can walk out and opt for a separation or a divorce from her husband as and when she feels like, but here in India the procedures are not that easy even to get a divorce the affluent break and move apart. They have the law folded and moulded to be tucked and kept in their pocket, but the situation with the families which is or which could be considered as middle and lower middle class, the condition of the womenfolks just after they are born till the death is like the NAILS being hit on the head and the other parts of the body and the pains inflicted is what they would have to bear and carry IT IS LIKE CASH AND CARRY FOR THEM.

Discrimination: From the Birth till the Death

In India, the birth of a girl is even today NOT accepted from the heart by any community, caste and creed. Sooner than a woman gives birth to a girl, the mother and the girl is illtreated. Even now the girls after the birth are KILLED by the family; this is prevalent in many villages as even today in this so-called modern and technological era.

If not killed the baby girl intentionally deprived for everything by the family be it food,  education,  liberty for her to enjoy the same facilities as the other male members of the family. The more she grows the more she made deprived of the things. Evil methods are implied and employed on her and she actually becomes a servant who has to serve the entire family. After the servant leaves the house, their duty for the day is expected to do all the household chores; everything that one and sundry would require her to do thereafter complete her studies for the day and then get up very early in the morning to complete all the household chores and then leave for school. If the performance of her studies is not up to the expectations, she is married and driven away from the house on one pretext or the other and this is a true picture in India even today though we claim that we are a modern country in the 21st century these kinds of human-cum-mental punishment are never to be seen and observed in the society that considers a boy born in the same family as something worth, but the birth of a girl child or a girl baby is considered to be a curse to the family. In India, Even now in this 21st century the girl and their birth are considered as a curse to the family and the grown-up are somehow not been treated on the even-par and equal keel as compared to the boys’ born into the same family.

One of the most filthy mindset is that the women all through their life eat the money of the family that she is born and then the husband to thinks the same especially at the villages and at the hamlets at India this idiotic belief and the poisonous mindset has completely shattered the mental growth of the people of India and has reduced the strength of the country as well.

The status of the women after marriage in India has even more horrifying stories – even after marriage, they are deprived of everything and for each and everything she has to rely on her husband.

What surprises us that in this country people worship Maa Durga, Maa Kali, Maa Saraswati, Maa Laxmi, Maa Sheetla Mata, to receive all the blessings from them during the puja festivals but when it comes to paying the same amount of regards, affection, love and like to the womenfolks right from a baby girl to the elder woman in the family the situation and the case studies are different that defies all the logics Women in the Indian society generally face problems of sex discrimination, high percentage of illiteracy, female infanticide, dowry system, etc

Changes are seen: Is that voluminous:

Preventing them for the basic education that they have a right for, purposely turning them illiterate, social stigma’s, criminal and heinous crimes performed on them such as rape, sexual harassment at workplace, are some big issues for the women in India. there have been some good changes as well in the metros and the big cities, but the percentage is nominal, and that cannot be construed as a radical change at all Yes some change is seen, but it cannot be termed as voluminous

Issues and problems:

there are various issues and problems which women generally face in the society in India. Some of the problems are mentioned and described below:

Abortion and female infanticide: this has become a national problem here at India and it is evident in the upper and educated class also No sooner that they come to know through the test performed that the infant at the tomma is a bay girl, the operation is performed to get rid of that poor soul THIS IS A HUMAN CRIME by the medical professionals.

Mental & Sexual Harassment:

It relates to exploitation, and it again is a constitutional crime Harassment of a girl on the road, buses, harassment of a women employee at the offices, harassment of a married woman by the in-laws for dowry, and then the sexual harassment by the husband, just do not want to write more on these those are understood and in case if the woman does not bears a baby boy. GOD SAVES HER She is a “ KULTI “, and “ KULAKSHANI “ and accordingly the punishments are served to her.

Dowry and Bride burning:

It is another problem generally faced by women of a low or middle-class family during or after the marriage. Would not like to describe it in details but then the message is understood.the population of the country is 135 crores and if the number of the woman was not killed the entire population of this country would have been about 190 crores, cried once a report from the UNESCO about India way back in 2005 In 2005, around 6787 dowry death cases were registered in India according to the Indian National Crime Bureau reports.

The disparity in education:

Even the age which we call it as modern the ratio of education of woman as compared to man is 2:8 according to the statistics that I hold the level of women education in the urban areas are OK but the less said about it for rural India, the better. Female illiteracy is higher in rural areas.

Domestic violence:

An endemic and widespread disease, which is the violence has affected almost 70% of Indian women according to the women and child development official. Unlike the boys’ the girls have no right to the property which is enjoyed by the boys though the law has been changed now but the tradition of the families and the religious belief still denies and prevents the woman of getting the share of her property from the household owners Unlike the boys’ the girls have no right to the property which is enjoyed by the boys though the law has been changed now the tradition of the families and the religious belief still denies and prevents the woman of getting the share of her property from the household owners

Child Marriages:

Early marriage of the girls by her parents to deny her of either the money that ought to be spent for her education or the dowry or the right that she would have over the property has seen the early child marriage enjoyed as the festival of India and this is still prevalent in the villages. It is highly practised in rural India.

Inadequate Nutrition:

Inadequate nutrition by the girl/woman and the ladies has been responsible for producing children’s full of disease, and other illness which has crippled the nation as a whole the childhood denials of nourishment to the baby and at the growing stages of her youth, affects women in their later life especially women belonging to the lower middle class and poor families.

Domestic violence and status in the family:

It is the abuse or violence against women. It was there since the age when Draupadi was subjected to Vastrachiran as we call it, and it even rules supreme even now there has been no change in this attitude at least in India which I can tell it for sure and maybe in the entire world

Women are considered inferior to men:

This is a mental affair, and the beleaguered thinking which has clipped the growth in terms in mind, body and physique has crippled the woman’s to compete on equal terms with the males though of late in the urban areas and cities the condition has changed a bit, so they are not allowed to join military services and the police force. this is a national problem and the education system as co-related to the employment that it generates in this country could be in the ratio of 0.001: 1 Here with this kind of a ACTUAL probability only one can guess the problems that a woman finds to get a job and that too a position where she can breathe easy

The difference in the attitude of woman:

Better if the thinking and the attitude changes or else we are not going to have any Maharana Pratap, Maharana Sangram Singh or even a Maharaja Shivaji Maharaj or a wrestler like Dara Singh, a Satpal Singh or a Sushil Kumar If it continues for some more years definitely the society will not only have to answer a lot but the nation also would have to answer a lot

Liberal Attitude: Will that rein

A liberal attitude and a trouble free society has produced a strong generation, and they have taken their country forward by leaps and bound A society that believes in INDEPENDENCE on the principles of MAN IS BORN FREE BUT IS ALWAYS IN CHAIN has produced what we can see it here in India and the whole of the South Asian countries

there at many a country the marriage that takes place has a space for open relationship that keeps them lively fit and young and energetic at all the time the mind is always vibrant and full of energy which maintains their youth and keeps them fit and young for everything even if they age Here even now in a village at Manipur to cite an example the PAANCHAALIS are there to serve their husband the number could be anything there aren’t the number of Sakhees less either there lies the mirror to see the faces in terms of the difference

My observation regarding this is that in the foreign countries it is inference, observation and then the experimentation that goes and that rules in most of the cases If the inference found out does not gives any chance to go in for all the experimentations later on- the CALL-OFF bell rings fast and it tolls for everybody to hear that Since I’m not a foreigner I would not be able to reply whether is that correct and right Here we find that experimentation, then observation followed by the inference that is the chemistry and whether this is an irreversible reaction or that which goes in the foreign countries is what is a question of conjecture to me but at least there at the foreign countries the ladies have a chance to move out and spare her of all the mental agony, trauma and the hassles.

It is evident In America and Europe there aren’t so many a traditional culture and belief and life is very different over there What is considered to be a taboo here is considered to be a life over there they have surged ahead because of the difference of the cult, values and culture that exists there which has no compulsion over there as that exists here there a six years of a boy and a four years of a girl ( say ) see their mother and father marrying and by the time they are in their teems they see their parents divorcing and here. Well, nothing more to write.

Problems related to unemployment:

this is a national problem and the education system as co-related to the employment that it generates in this country could be in the ratio of 0.001: 1 Here with this kind of a ACTUAL probability only one can guess the problems that a woman finds to get a job and that too a job where she can breathe easy Difference in the attitude of woman:It is evident In America and Europe there aren’t so many a traditional culture and belief and life is very different over there What is considered to be a taboo here is considered to be a life over there they have surged ahead because of the difference of the cult, values and culture that exists there which has no compulsion over there as that exists here there a six years of a boy and a four years of a girl ( say ) see their mother and father marrying and by the time they are in their teems they see their parents divorcing and here. Girl’s Attitude – Once Bitten Twice Shy:

the girls here at India read the situation fast they come to know that whatsoever it might be their parents would push them off once they get a chance to do that in case if they get hold of a good or even not a good match A sensible and an intelligent girl knows that everything that is being done to her is with a purpose and everything that would be done to her also would involve partiality and an attempt to crease her and send her off from the family.

In case if she is not that good looking that also is a bane to her because people look in for wonderful and good looks that the girl/lady ought to possess before accepting to get the lady married to them who are their son’s or whatever they might be, or to their family members the ugly the look of the one who is a lady getting to be married the more is the dowry that is the rule prevalent here at India A lot of ladies did not get married because they were considered to be not that good looking and a lot had to commit suicide because of various reasons that ranged from not having a good look to the problems of finding very hard to meet the dowry demands.

the girls look around for boys at a particular age It is NOT because they are LOOSE-CHARACTER’S CHIMP but because they look in for some security that they could get it from the boy’s this is ONE of the prime reason why the girls move around and look in for friend in boy’s If they feel that the boy is capable enough to provide the necessary security to her the girl reposes and bestows a lot of faith in the boy If the intention of the boy is not good or up to the mark, the poor girl has to face the wrought of the same that is a peculiar and an unfair proceeding that the poor soul has to face.

Crimes and the other such activities also take place here It and if it a breach of the trust and the poor soul if she has to be in a piquant situation she because of the fear from the society and the backlash that she would receive it from the hands of her family members, she is forced to keep her mouth shut Bad time forces her to take a bad step Lucky if she is she finds some route to recharge her life for the better but those bad moments in which she had to face many trials and traverse never leaves her this again add to her problems this is the reality of being a girl in our country and our society.

Government Aid: Neither lateral, not vertical:

Seventy-two years of Independence and there is nothing good that these souls have ever received it from the society or the Government as such they may be one here and one there as some rules but the freak, fragile and the weak law that the people have made it for them also does not comes in as a handy for them to take care of themselves and get all those protections and the security from the law As many as 10 rape case on an average are performed in our country every day but the verdict has been even less than 1% and that too it comes between a gap of 15 to 25 years IS THAT the WAY TO PROVIDE JUSTICE I ASK Powerful and influential, be it from the society and be it from the individuals have made the law PUPPET of their hand and how come you can expect any justice out of them, i.e. the law that and there lies the crux.

Expectations:

A new Government under Modi for the Modi Government 2.0 has come to the place with Madam Siti Irani at the helms of the affair She herself has seen it all and has gone through the various trauma in her life before rising and reaching this position One really hopes that she discovers something on her own and make the law as well as the society of the ladies STRONG and trustful for the future generation especially belonging to the ladies and it’s category to breathe and feel very secured and very easy.

Better if the thinking and the attitude changes or else we are not going to have any Maharana Pratap, Maharana Sangram Singh or even a Maharaja Shivaji Maharaj or a wrestler like Dara Singh, a Satpal Singh or a Sushil Kumar.

this article I dedicate it to a woman who I had met some 23 years ago and who had instilled and rekindled the FIRE of writing and the fair of JOURNALISM which was there in me but was absolutely dried for that matter burnt into ashes She gave the necessary kind of a water to it saying that DO NOT LET YOUR JOURNALISM ” FLAVOUR ” TO DIE AT ALL after hearing me talking to her She is a German a Jew if I’m not mistaken but breaded and brought up at Indonesia and India and now settled at the US.

Well, this lady deserves the entire credit for ignoring the dead by injecting in it the life in terms of her advise, which again has brought me to the world of writers and writing.
